Woo-Hoo!!
Daughter received her first college acceptance! It is a very tiny school tucked away in the mountains and has some very exciting programs and cool academic opportunities for a school of its size. It is her safety school, but if she ends up going there, I wouldn't mind a bit.

Sounds great. Wish I were going.
Love your eye today. So much better than the teary one. But sometimes we do feel tearful...

I didn't realize that it looked teary. I actually chose it because it was purple, and I was tired of brown and blue. (grin) But yes, I did choose the one that's up there now as an expression of happiness. I used to write more about daughter but stopped because of privacy concerns. She was in residential treatment (behavioral problems) and away from home for 2.5 years. She's been back home for a year and a half, and the fact that she's been accepted to college is the most wonderfully, miraculously, amazingly, fantastically, incredibly, marvelously, stupendously welcome news! I am very happy. Had to have a happy eye. : )

I'm glad to hear she is on track with her life. She is very lucky to have caring parents to help her. I hope she can find enough satisfaction in life to channel her emotions in a positive way.

Congratulations. We are working on getting my son though the SATs. It will be tough.

congrats! congrats! congrats!
And I'm not one to knock "safety" schools. I ended up going to my safety school - GWU - and glad that I did.
Does she have any idea as to what she would like to study?

Thanks Dave. Good luck getting through the college process.
Thanks, Charles. I think you and I discussed this once before - I went to GWU too. Wasn't my safety school - it was my middle-of-the-road school. I was also glad I went.
Daughter has three potential areas of interest - nursing, hotel management and psychology. I like the nursing and hotel management choices. As a psych major myself I say, choose something else.

Mine, unfortunately, merely wants a career where he can "make a lot of money, really fast." He's no scholar (dyslexia), which pretty much locks him out of medical and legal professions.

2 out of 3 of my children have learning disabilities. School has been a challenge.

Yeah....and while I was a terrible student, it was because I didn't fit in with the whole regimented learning groove-thang. I always had a thirst for knowledge (as does my daughter). My son is less interesting in knowledge and more interested in sports and other activities. That reminds me...I ought to send you a link to his band's MySpace page, they've put up a video of a rehearsal. Noisy, unrehearsed garage rock...but they're doing the work, which is more than I did when I was his age. We mainly used being a "musician" as an excuse to hang around and smoke pot.

Draftervoi: Please do send the link. I would enjoy seeing the video.

Doing a happy dance for you here, Gail. What a great Thanksgiving present!

Thanks, Shirl. Was a point in time I thought I'd NEVER see this happen. What a roller coaster ride it's been.
