Just Sent This to My Daughter
You may find it interesting too:
Get your daughters off the couch: New research shows exercise during the teen years — starting as young as age 12 — can help protect girls from breast cancer when they're grown. Middle-aged women have long been advised to get active to lower their risk of breast cancer after menopause.
What's new: That starting so young pays off, too.
...Women who were physically active as teens and young adults were 23 percent less likely to develop premenopausal breast cancer than women who grew up sedentary, researchers report Wednesday in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

Actually, the link between teenage girl exercise and breast cancer has been around for a while; Dr. Leslie Bernstein (whose daughter lives in Highland Park, NJ) conducted similar research a while back. Thanks for reminding everyone.
So, when you send your daughter an email on health, how does she respond? My sons would probably just delete it.

I don't send her articles very often. In fact, this may be the first time I've done it. I suspect she'll read it. She's voiced to me concern about breast cancer before and knows that she has to be vigilant because of the fact that it's in her family.
There's a group of kids who work out together after school a few times a week and she's been thinking about joining them. I was hoping the article would help her decide to do it.

That's wonderful, that your daughter wants to get more involved. There's an organization based in Northern New Jersey called Sharsheret (http://www.sharsheret.org/). You might want to see if there's some ideas there for her. My son's high school next year had some teenage boys who helped the organization.
