Amen.
Thanks for teaching my daughter this song (she hummed along as we played the video). She asked, "who's Kate Smith?" and I googled and found some fun facts about God Bless America on Wikipedia:
Music critic Jody Rosen comments that a 1906 Jewish dialect novelty song, "When Mose With His Nose Leads the Band," contains a six-note fragment that is "instantly recognizable as the opening strains of 'God Bless America.'"
and
Woody Guthrie disliked the song, and wrote "This Land Is Your Land," originally titled "God Blessed America For Me," as a response to "God Bless America."

Very cool, Leora - both that your daughter enjoyed the music and the facts you found.
Sorry it took so long for your comments to show up, by the way. I normally receive an email letting me know when people post comments, but for some reason, I didn't receive notice when you did yours. Didn't find out you had commented until this morning.
