October 3rd, 1975
Today is the 32nd anniversary of me and my husband's first date.
Ok, the great gathering of people can disperse, and everyone can go back what they were doing now. Applause is totally unnecessary. No, you don't have to write it down so that you can remember to congratulate me next year...You don't have to say anything at all. Certainly don't tell me what YOU were doing on 10/3/75. I have no desire to hear that you were naught but a twinkle in your mom and dad's eye, or were very busy thinking about the crush you had on your first grade teacher.

1975 - hey, I remember it well, so it could not have been that long ago.
Remember we had the energy "crisis" so they moved daylight savings so that we were getting up in the dark to go to school. And they were working on the Alaska Pipeline. I remember several of my father's friends all talking about how they were going to go up there to make lots of money. Although, I don't recall anyone ever getting off their bar stools long enough to actually go!
Americans were pulling out of Saigon and taking Vietnamese orphans with us. President Ford had nothing but praise for the American Marines guarding the U.S. Embassy there (I always liked that man even though I didn't vote for him, I am embarrassed to say I recall voting for some peanut farmer the next year)
Remember Pat and Vanna started on Wheel of Fortune. Being from New Jersey I should remember Bruce Springstein's "Born to Run" but I liked Queen's "A Night At The Opera" instead. in fact, I still have the orignal vinyl. It is a rather lame show now (if it is even still on) but, "Saturday Night Live" was fantastic! Nobody did as good a job as the orignal cast of The Not-Ready-for-Primetime Players! We actually preferred to stay home on Saturday night instead of going out.
I remember the Spanish teacher in our high school (an actual exchange teacher from Spain) being rather excited that Juan Carlos was taking over because Franco died (Remember Chevy Chase on SNL news announcing "this just in - Generalissimo Franco is still dead")
My Russian Teacher was upset because all the news broadcasters couldn't pronounce Soyuz correctly (as in the Apollo-Soyuz mission) It is properly pronounced as soy-use.
It all seems like it was just yesterday!
Well, that's my trip down memory lane for 1975 - hopefully you and your husband have better memories!
Congrats Gail & hubby!
P.S. I know that you asked that we NOT tell you want we were doing in 1975 - but I wanted to show you that for some of us it wasn't that long ago and certainly not "prehistory"!

Hey Charles - long time no see! Hope you are doing well. Thanks for the wonderful look back in time! I remember everything you mentioned, from the Alaskan pipeline to SNL being the funniest and best thing ever. We watched it every Saturday night as well. It was an "event" we never wanted to miss.
Donna: Thanks! Husband is in Chicago and I am in Virginia. But we don't generally make a fuss over this date. We celebrate our wedding anniversary and just kind of mention this date in passing every year.
