Daughter
Daughter tells me that she has a date for her school's Homecoming dance. He's "just a friend." He's very funny and makes her laugh.
I can tell she's pleased and excited, though she's trying to play it cool.
This is big when I consider the fact that for quite a while we thought she'd never have a "normal" high school experience. I am so very happy for her.

Congratulations.... Being a friend is very important... Friends are not like Dads or brothers and they're much more fun than boyfriends... I've watched my three girls and they seem to have found the right balance with their friends... They also share a distaste for other women who have clingy-self esteem issues...
It's interesting time... Oh- there will be some trauma and drama scenes as well... I found that if i only listen then they could judge the level of response quite nicely... As a dad-I tend to get the atomic arsebnal and special operations forces ready way too soon...
As long as girls have a soft shoulder and open ear...they find the strength and will to do the right things... It's just NOT gonna neecssarily be the one we would have chosen...
I like kids... They have so much magic and they sparkle when they enter a room... even now...

Yes, the energy they have is great. Love it when we have all three of ours together - have to appreciate it while we can. It's nice now that they get along with one another. The fighting used to drive me batty.

How fun! Friends are wonderful and often so much emphasis is put on having a BOYfriend or GIRLfriend that just being friends and making each other laugh is somehow lost. I think it great your daughter knows the importance AND the difference! Tell her to have fun. er.....but not TOO much fun! :-)
